OUR STORY

We had all the answers. Until we didn’t.

Despite blood, sweat, and tears, and endless dedication to our marriage and family, we continued to struggle. We made things worse by trying too hard at the things that didn’t matter. We were stuck in communication loops that we couldn’t seem to change: the same arguments, the same standoffs, the same cycles. In 2010, we dove into foster adoption, and the little spirals in our life began to amplify.

In 2013, we made a phone call. It was our first admission that we couldn’t do it alone. We had never tried counseling. It was supposed to be for other people, not us. Thus begun a years-long journey of surrender, swallowing pride, accepting grace, and receiving help to heal and realign that continues even to this day. We aren’t perfect, but we are on a path. We want to be wounded healers.

We’ve learned firsthand that there is no perfect. We’ve learned that relationships, dreams, and goals have to be fought for. And without the love and grace from amazing people along the way, we don’t know where we would be today.

We launched Grounded Life after 16 years of marriage, four kids, two adoptions, and a lot of scars. We believe wounds are some of our greatest gifts, and that more joy is always on its way. In the words of Henri Nouwen, we want to be “wounded healers.” Its our joy to help you and your team find the gifts at your core that make you uniquely you.
